The toe code worked on the first try last night

I have had episodes every Sunday morning for two years. Last night I heard the buzzing start and instead of panicking I just wiggled my left big toe over and over. My partner noticed within about twenty seconds and said my name. Total episode: maybe forty seconds instead of the usual two minutes of terror. Writing it down so future me remembers it works.

My weekly trigger is clearly Saturday lie-ins

I kept a simple log for eight weeks. Eleven episodes, nine of them on Saturday or Sunday between 08:00 and 10:00, always after going to bed late. Since I started getting up at the same time on weekends and taking a short nap instead, I have had one episode in three weeks.

Longer exhales are the only thing that reliably helps me

Counting four out, four in gives my brain a task and something to control. It does not end the episode instantly but it takes the panic out completely, which is really the part that made episodes traumatic for me.

How I explained it to my husband without scaring him

I showed him the Partner Code Card and framed it as a normal sleep-stage overlap, not something spooky. He now knows to say my name quietly and touch my hand rather than shaking me. It changed the whole atmosphere in our bedroom.

Is a loud ringing before the paralysis normal?

Every single time it starts with what sounds like a train or a very loud electric hum. Is that a common part of it or should I get my ears checked?
